Wellness Care and Preventive Care
Physical Exams – Vaccinations – Wellness Testing
Physical Exams by our veterinarian are essential to the continued health and appropriate treatment of your pet. Regular examinations give us a chance to evaluate your pet’s individual health and detect issues before they become problematic and difficult to treat. Our Veterinarian believes in conducting a complete, thorough, and accurate physical exam before starting treatment. Because pets age an accelerated rate, semi-annual examinations are our recommendation.
During your pet’s exam you can expect the following:
- A history will be taken and questions asked of you about your pet’s specific condition and habits. A pet’s health can change rapidly so we will ask you questions each time your pet comes to us.
- Your pet will have its vitals taken. The body weight, rectal temperature, heart rate and respiratory rate will be recorded.
- The doctor will then examine your pet starting at the head and continuing through each section until she has completed a complete exam of eyes, ears, nose, mouth, lungs, heart, skin, abdomen, bones, muscles, joints, reproductive organs, lymph nodes, feet, and legs are all checked.
It is important that you take this opportunity to let us know anything you are concerned about with your pet. Please let us know if you have witnessed or noticed any unusual behavior or potential problems your pet is experiencing, including:
- Changes in appetite or if your pet is un-willing to eat.
- Changes in weight either gaining or loosing
- Vomiting or diarrhea
- Coughing or trouble breathing
- Excessive drinking or urination
We will also recommend some baseline testing based on this history and physical exam, which might include parasite screening, blood test, and possibly urine screening. We will also determine which vaccinations are needed for your individual pet based on your pet’s individual risk. A pets age, medical history, and lifestyle can alter the vaccinations they need.
